ROAD AMERICA ACTIVE MEASURES AGAINST CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19)

As you may know, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is responding to an outbreak of respiratory disease caused by a coronavirus. The virus has been detected in numerous locations internationally, including in the United States. Road America is taking active measures to protect our guests from this harmful virus.

The number one priority for the team at Road America is the health and safety of our guests. We have no reason to believe coronavirus is present at the facility. We are working closely with public health officials to follow all recommendations and best practices regarding the virus.

At this time, we are encouraging staff to work from home in response to the coronavirus pandemic and local government directives. Certain staff who are essential to our facility operations are working adjusted hours on-site while following CDC and WHO guidelines.

Regarding our schedule: For now, we have postponed our Spring Vintage Festival Featuring SVRA – May 15-17 due to COVID-19 and we are hosting the MotoAmerica Superbike Series event (without fans) on May 29-31. An additional MotoAmerica Superbike Weekend has been added to the schedule on June 26-28 which includes all professional classes and the Vintage MotoFest activities. Fans who have tickets and previously purchased items (camping, golf carts, etc.) for the MotoAmerica weekend in May can use their tickets and items in June. Aside from the recent changes, all other regular-season events remain as scheduled.

Our ticketing office is open for processing sales and season passes on-site while following CDC and WHO guidelines and contactless payment options are available. Additionally, customers may still make event purchases online and print their tickets at home. Printed tickets will be mailed as purchases are processed.

Our Paddock Shop is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, and during event weekends, while offering contactless payment to customers. The Paddock Shop also offers online merchandise purchases and curbside pick up during regular hours. The Paddock Shop is currently following safe business practices where appropriate.

Road America is also offering partners and sanctioning bodies the option to develop plans and procedures specific to their individual events to operate safely according to CDC and WHO guidelines. We are also actively taking numerous steps, including:

Increased cleaning – Our janitorial team adheres to the recommendations set forth in the U.S. EPA’s Emerging Pathogen Policy regarding cleaning disinfectants.

We are sanitizing high-touch areas at least daily, such as:

  • Restrooms
  • Handrails
  • All entrance revolving door handles, the main door handles, and push bars
  • Public furniture
  • All rooms prior to and immediately following use
  • Offices and all kitchen areas

Increased hand sanitizer stations. We now have more hand sanitizer stations throughout the facility. These stations are mobile, allowing us to deploy them based on event schedules and traffic.

Protective sneeze guards. We are placing protective sneeze guards supplied by our partner CTECH Manufacturing, at concessions areas, the Paddock Shop, all gates, and the ticket office.

Staff training and safety – All Road America Security, Fire Safety, EMT, and paramedic personnel have guidelines from local and national public health departments on how to recognize possible symptoms of Coronavirus as well as steps in containment. We are also encouraging our employees to conduct wellness and temperature checks daily before entering the facility.

What preventative steps has Road America taken against coronavirus?

Our number one priority is always the health and safety of our guests. We have taken several steps to protect the facility including:

Increased cleaning – Our janitorial team adheres to the recommendations set forth in the U.S. EPA’s Emerging Pathogen Policy regarding cleaning disinfectants.

We are sanitizing high-touch areas at least daily, such as:

  • Restrooms
  • Handrails
  • All entrance door handles, the main door handles, and push bars

Have you added extra staff to address this situation?

While all staff will be equipped to sanitize or disinfectant their assigned area, there is additional staff for the sole purpose of continuous cleaning of public space.

Do you have any medical staff on-site?

Road America has a Safety Director who works closely with local and national health agencies. The Safety Director works closely with facility management and first responder departments, including our on-site medical center, paramedics, and security to ensure our team is prepared for medical emergencies on campus, including communicable diseases.

Ongoing Efforts for Events:

Road America leadership has taken a proactive approach, and additional measures are deployed to minimize the spread of any viruses during Test Days, Club Events, Karting Events, Schools, 4-Miles of Fitness, etc.

Those measures include but are not limited to:

  • High-traffic worker positions (registration, waivers, etc.) have been issued appropriate PPE including nitrile gloves (preferred over latex due to allergies).
  • Guests may purchase tickets online and Print at Home for contactless scanning at the gates.
  • Contactless payment options are available at the Road America Ticket Office, Paddock Shop, and all gates.
  • Equipment with high-contact rates (radios, headsets, clipboards, etc.) is sanitized before and between uses when they are shared.
  • For enclosed areas, we are encouraging limited numbers and safe best practices per CDC and WHO guidelines, including the Paddock Shop.
  • Events where loaner helmets are provided (i.e. driving schools), balaclavas (head socks) and disinfectant spray are offered.
  • Any driver’s/corner worker meetings normally held indoors are conducted outside utilizing the public address system.
  • Event attendees and staff are encouraged to practice social distancing (maintaining a distance of at least six feet from each other) and minimize direct, physical contact as much as possible while social functions are discouraged.
  • Experts have repeatedly stated that the best defense is to practice good personal hygiene, with regular hand washing being highly effective at preventing the spread of viruses.

Providing a safe environment for our partners, visitors, guests, and staff is our top priority.  Through public health organizations such as the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO), we are staying abreast of the latest updates and developments as they occur.  We are also in close communication with our local public health and government officials to determine what additional safeguards may need to be implemented.

This is an evolving situation, and rest assured that any actions we take will be consistent with guidelines from these agencies.  Please continue to visit our website to learn of any changes to the event schedule as they become available.
