Road America Lodging Options for Event Weekends
Visitors attending a multi-day event at Road America can choose from several types of accommodations, including lodging directly on the property, camping and RV sites, resorts in Elkhart Lake, hotels in Plymouth, and additional properties throughout the surrounding region.
The most appropriate option depends on the length of the visit, the type of accommodations preferred, and how closely visitors want their lodging to be connected to the event itself. Guests who want to remain at Road America throughout the weekend may prefer an on-site cabin, the Road America Chalet, or a campsite. Visitors who prefer traditional hotel or resort accommodations will find the largest nearby concentrations in Elkhart Lake and Plymouth.
Because lodging demand increases significantly during major race weekends, reservations should be made as early as possible once travel dates are confirmed.
Lodging Directly at Road America
Road America offers a limited number of accommodations directly on its property at N7390 State Highway 67 in Plymouth.
The on-site cabins are designed for small groups and are located within walking distance of the circuit. Each cabin is more than 200 square feet and includes a queen bed, two bunk beds, a full bathroom with a shower over the tub, and a small kitchen equipped with a microwave and refrigerator. The cabins are fully furnished and are generally available during the primary event season from May through September.
Cabin pricing varies by event, and an event ticket purchase is required. Current cabin rentals include camping wristbands for up to four guests. Availability can be limited during major weekends, and several of the largest events regularly sell out well in advance.
For larger groups, Road America also operates a five-bedroom, 4.5-bath Chalet located on several wooded acres within the property. The Chalet includes multiple living areas, a fireplace, kitchen facilities, a washer and dryer, a patio deck, internet service, and several bedrooms distributed across three floors. Unlike the seasonal cabins, the Chalet is available throughout the year, subject to reservations and event availability.
For groups attending an entire race weekend, on-site lodging has a clear logistical advantage. Guests can remain at Road America between event days and travel between their accommodations and the circuit without a daily drive from Elkhart Lake, Plymouth, or another community.
Camping and RV Lodging at Road America
Camping provides the largest inventory of accommodations directly at the facility.
Road America has more than 1,000 campsites distributed across eight camping zones. The available site types include tent and pop-up camping, non-electric motorhome sites, electric motorhome sites, and premium trackside locations.
For RV and motorhome guests, selected trackside sites provide 50-amp electrical service. Individual campsites do not have water hookups, although two dump stations are available on the property. Permanent restroom and shower facilities are distributed throughout the grounds, and additional portable facilities may be provided depending on the event. Shower use is complimentary for event guests.
Camping is particularly appropriate for visitors attending several consecutive days of racing. It removes the need for daily travel and provides access to Road America’s concessions, Paddock Shop, restrooms, showers, and other event services.
Advance reservations are recommended. Online campsite reservations are available during the advance ticket period for each event. After gate pricing begins, remaining campsites may be reserved at the gate on the first day of the event, subject to availability.
Visitors considering camping should review the separate Road America camping information for site dimensions, electrical service, generator rules, pet policies, fire regulations, and event-specific arrival procedures.
Resorts and Lodging in Elkhart Lake
Elkhart Lake is the principal resort destination near Road America and provides one of the broadest selections of accommodations close to the circuit.
Road America’s current area visitor information includes The Osthoff Resort and Schoolhouse Straight Inn among lodging options in the Elkhart Lake area.
Elkhart Lake is particularly suitable for visitors who want access to restaurants, resort amenities, shops, and lake recreation in addition to attending an event. The village is only a short drive from Road America and has a longstanding connection to road racing in the region.
Resort lodging can also be useful when several people are traveling together but not everyone intends to spend the entire day at the circuit. Guests can remain close to Road America while still having access to activities and services in the village.
The primary limitation is availability. Elkhart Lake has a relatively small lodging inventory compared with the attendance generated by Road America’s largest events. Rooms may become difficult to find well before race weekend, particularly for high-demand dates.
Visitors who prefer to stay in Elkhart Lake should therefore make reservations as soon as their event plans are established.
Hotels and Motels in Plymouth
Plymouth provides another significant concentration of lodging close to Road America.
Current properties identified by Road America include AmericInn Plymouth, Baymont Inn & Suites, and Route 57 Motor Court Motel.
Plymouth is located south of the circuit and provides convenient access to State Highway 67. It also offers grocery stores, fuel stations, restaurants, pharmacies, and other services that can be useful during a multi-day event.
For visitors primarily focused on the race schedule, a Plymouth hotel may be the most straightforward option. Guests can stay close to Road America without paying for resort amenities they may have little opportunity to use.
Plymouth can also be convenient for competitors, vendors, photographers, and other event participants who may need access to everyday retail services during the weekend.
Traffic should still be considered during larger events. Visitors staying off-site should allow additional time for morning travel, parking, entry, and movement through the Road America property before scheduled activity begins.
Lodging Farther From the Circuit
When accommodations in Elkhart Lake and Plymouth are unavailable, additional lodging can be found throughout the surrounding region.
Road America’s current visitor information identifies properties in Cleveland, Sheboygan Falls, Manitowoc, Fond du Lac, and Port Washington, among other communities. Listed options include Highland Lodge in Cleveland, The Oasis Hotel & Bar in Sheboygan Falls, Holiday Inn Manitowoc, Days Inn in Fond du Lac, and The Harborview in Port Washington.
Staying farther from Road America increases daily travel time but can provide additional hotel inventory during sold-out weekends. It may also be appropriate for visitors who prefer a particular type of hotel or are combining a Road America event with other travel in eastern Wisconsin.
When comparing more distant accommodations, visitors should consider the total drive rather than room price alone. An additional commute in both directions can become significant over a three- or four-day event.
Selecting the Right Road America Lodging Option
Road America lodging generally falls into four categories.
On-site cabins and the Chalet provide traditional accommodations directly at the facility but have limited availability.
Camping and RV sites provide the greatest range of on-site options and are well suited to guests who want to remain at Road America throughout the event.
Elkhart Lake provides resort and visitor-oriented lodging close to the circuit, along with restaurants and recreational amenities.
Plymouth offers conventional hotels and convenient access to everyday services while remaining close to Road America.
Additional communities throughout the region provide alternatives when lodging closer to the circuit is unavailable.
For major public events, availability should be considered early in the planning process. Road America maintains current information on on-site lodging, camping, and recommended accommodations in the surrounding area, allowing visitors to compare options before making reservations.
