RV Camping at Road America: What to Know Before Your Visit

RV camping at Road America allows visitors attending multi-day events to stay directly on the property and avoid traveling between the circuit and off-site accommodations each day. Road America has more than 1,000 campsites throughout the facility, including designated areas for motorhomes, trackside RV sites, and sites with electrical service.

Because the property covers approximately 640 acres and camping locations vary considerably, visitors should review the available camping zones before reserving a site. Site location, electrical requirements, proximity to the circuit, and RV dimensions should all be considered before making a reservation.

Camping procedures are tied to individual events, and requirements can vary. Road America recommends reviewing the current event page and camping guidelines before arrival.

RV Camping Areas at Road America

Road America divides its campground into multiple zones located around the circuit. RV and motorhome sites are available in several of these areas, including both trackside and non-trackside locations.

Most campsites are approximately 20 feet by 40 feet, although individual site dimensions and surfaces can vary. Sites may be located on grass, gravel, or pavement depending on the camping area.

Trackside electric motorhome sites are located in portions of Zones 5 and 6, including areas south of the front straight grandstand and VIP Tower and inside Turn 1. These sites are approximately 20 feet by 40 feet, are located on compact gravel, and include 50-amp electrical service. Water hookups are not provided at the individual sites.

Because these locations provide direct proximity to the racing circuit, they are among Road America’s premium camping options and must be reserved in advance.

Non-electric motorhome camping is also available in other areas of the property. These sites can be appropriate for self-contained RVs or guests prepared to operate a generator within Road America’s permitted hours.

Visitors should review the current camping map and individual zone descriptions before selecting a site, particularly if access to electrical service or a specific area of the circuit is important.

Electrical Service and Generator Use

Electrical RV sites at Road America provide 50-amp service.

Current camping guidelines recommend bringing at least 35 feet of electrical cord along with the appropriate 50-amp adapter. Campers should confirm that their RV equipment is compatible with the available service before arriving.

Visitors staying in non-electric sites may use generators during designated hours.

Road America currently permits generators between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. Generators should not interfere with neighboring campsites, and Road America may require a generator to be turned off if it causes a disturbance. Quiet hours are observed from 10:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m.

RV owners who rely heavily on generator power should account for the overnight restriction when planning battery use, refrigeration, climate control, and other electrical needs.

Water and RV Dump Stations

Individual RV campsites at Road America do not include water hookups.

Potable water is available on the property, including in the Carousel area during public events. Visitors should arrive with an appropriate plan for freshwater storage and use, particularly when staying for several days.

Road America provides two RV dump stations. Current event information identifies one in the Carousel area and another near Gate 6.

Because full water and sewer connections are not available at individual sites, RV camping at Road America differs from staying at a full-service RV resort. Guests should prepare accordingly before beginning their trip.

Restrooms, Showers and Other Amenities

Restrooms and showers are available throughout the Road America property and are provided at no additional charge to campers.

The location of permanent restroom and shower facilities varies by camping zone. Reviewing the campground map before selecting a site can therefore be useful, particularly for visitors who expect to use these facilities rather than relying exclusively on the bathroom and shower inside their RV.

Concession stands operate during most public events, although the number of open locations and their hours depend on the event schedule. The Paddock Shop is also available during most events and carries merchandise along with selected items that may be useful during a multi-day stay.

Campers may also prepare meals at their campsites. Fires must be contained in equipment designed to keep them off the ground, such as a grill or portable fire pit. Ashes must be disposed of in designated containers.

RV Size and Campsite Requirements

Visitors traveling with larger RVs should confirm that the entire camping setup will fit within the dimensions of the reserved site.

Road America requires vehicles to remain completely within the assigned campsite. Overflow vehicles must be moved to designated non-camping parking areas. Large party tents are not permitted, although sleeping tents and smaller screen tents may be used within the applicable camping rules.

This is particularly important when accounting for slide-outs, awnings, tow vehicles, outdoor furniture, grills, and other equipment.

Standard campsites are approximately 20 feet by 40 feet, so RV owners should consider the total footprint of their setup rather than the length of the motorhome alone.

Event Tickets, Wristbands and Camping Reservations

A campsite reservation is only one part of the admission requirements for RV camping at Road America.

Under the current camping guidelines, each camper age 17 and older must have a valid event ticket and an advance camping wristband in addition to the reserved campsite. Each campsite can accommodate up to six people, and at least one camper must be age 18 or older. Guests age 16 and younger must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Camping reservations are made for specific events. Online reservations are available during the advance-ticket period. Once advance pricing ends, remaining campsites may be available for purchase at the gate on the first day of the event, subject to availability.

Advance reservations are recommended for major event weekends, particularly for visitors seeking electrical or trackside sites.

Arrival and Registration

RV campers must check in at the designated registration area for their event and should arrive with their camping wristbands, event tickets, and campsite information available.

Current camping guidelines state that campers who miss registration during posted hours may not be permitted to enter until 7:00 a.m. the following day. After registration, the camping wristband provides 24-hour access. Entry after 8:00 p.m. is currently handled through Gate 6.

Individual event pages may specify a particular entrance for initial camping arrivals. Several Road America events, for example, direct camping traffic through Gate 4 during published registration hours.

Visitors should therefore confirm the instructions for their specific event rather than relying on procedures from a previous visit.

Planning an RV Stay at Road America

RV camping can be one of the most convenient lodging options for visitors attending several consecutive days at Road America. It allows guests to remain on the property, reduces daily travel, and provides a range of site choices from standard non-electric camping to premium trackside electrical locations.

Successful planning requires understanding the services available at the assigned site. Electrical sites provide 50-amp service, individual water hookups are not available, generators are restricted to designated hours, and most sites measure approximately 20 feet by 40 feet.
