What to Expect at the WeatherTech Vintage Weekend at Road America

Article

The WeatherTech Vintage Weekend with Brian Redman returns to Road America on July 15–18, 2027. Expect four days of historic racing with more than 400 vintage race cars on track. Porsche is the 2027 Featured Marque, and the weekend includes two evenings of Concours d’Elegance displays in downtown Elkhart Lake. It’s a car show and a race weekend in one: you can walk the paddock, see decades-old race cars up close and watch them run on the original 4.048-mile, 14-turn circuit. Kids 16 and under get in free with a paying adult.

What vintage racing is

Vintage racing, sometimes called historic racing, puts older race cars back on track in competition. Cars are grouped by era and type, so similar machines race together. At the WeatherTech Vintage Weekend, Road America describes the entries as more than 400 vintage race cars. The 2026 event highlighted cars spanning nearly 100 years of racing history.

The racing is real, but the atmosphere is different from a modern pro weekend. Many of these cars are rare and carry real race history, so if you like cars as much as racing, this weekend is built for you.

Road America’s original circuit layout hasn’t changed since the track opened in 1955.

Porsche: the 2027 Featured Marque

Each year the event spotlights a featured marque, the car brand at the center of the weekend’s displays and sessions. For 2027 it’s Porsche. Road America says the celebration will span “the earliest Porsche tractors and iconic road cars to championship-winning race cars.”

That range is part of the appeal. You don’t have to be a Porsche collector to enjoy it, since the display covers the brand’s history from farm equipment to racing. Watch the WeatherTech Vintage Weekend event page for Porsche-specific sessions and displays as they’re announced.

The paddock is the main attraction

The paddock is the area where race teams park, prepare and work on their cars between sessions. At the Vintage Weekend it’s often where fans spend the most time. With hundreds of historic cars on the property, walking the paddock is like touring a racing museum where the exhibits start up and drive off.

The paddock is foot traffic only, so plan to walk. Road America describes the weekend as a mix of “historic racing, concours displays, reunions, car clubs, special exhibitions, vendors” and more, so expect car club displays and vendors around the property as well.

Concours d’Elegance in downtown Elkhart Lake

A concours d’elegance is a judged display of exceptional cars. During the Vintage Weekend, it moves off the track and into the Village of Elkhart Lake, near the circuit:

Friday, July 16, 2027 6:00–8:00 p.m. Parade and display of vintage race cars
Saturday, July 17, 2027 6:00–8:00 p.m. Display of luxury sports cars (no parade)

Friday’s parade brings vintage race cars through the streets of town. Road America also offers a VIP Concourse Experience for Friday and Saturday evenings in Elkhart Lake. Details are on the event page.

Tickets and admission

Tickets are available in advance and at the gate on event days. Gates accept cash, Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express. Road America hasn’t posted 2027 ticket prices on the event page yet, so check the WeatherTech Vintage Weekend tickets page for current pricing.

  • Kids 16 and under get in free with a paying adult.
  • Students save $10 at the gate with a current student ID.
  • There’s no assigned seating. General admission lets you watch from any public viewing area and walk the paddock.

Hospitality options include the Finish Line Tower package, which includes full event admission, and a Finish Line Tower upgrade for existing ticket holders.

Camping

On-site camping is available for the Vintage Weekend. Each campsite requires a reservation, plus a full event ticket and a camping wristband for every guest 16 and older. Sites are organized by zone:

  • Zone 1: tents only
  • Zones 2–4: tents and motorhomes
  • Zones 5, 6 and 8: motorhomes only

Campsites don’t have water hookups. Potable water is available in the Carousel, along with two dump stations. Campers enter through Gate 4 on County Road J. See site types and zone maps on the Road America camping page.

Getting in and getting around

Gates open at 7:00 a.m. General admission ticket holders use the Main Gate on Highway 67 or Gate 3 on County Road J, where golf cart rentals are also handled. Gate 5 is closed for this event.

Only licensed, street-legal vehicles are allowed on the property. A free shuttle runs Saturday and Sunday, and the Paddock Shop is open 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for supplies and merchandise.

The event page also lists touring laps, which let you drive your own car around the circuit at set times. Space is limited and vehicle restrictions apply, so check the event page for 2027 details before you plan on it.

Tips for your first Vintage Weekend

A little planning goes a long way at a weekend this size:

  • Bring cash. Road America notes that many concession stands are cash-only. ATMs are available on site.
  • Pace yourself. Between the paddock, the track and the evening Concours in Elkhart Lake, there’s more to see than one day allows.
  • Dress for July. Pack sunscreen, a hat, water and comfortable walking shoes, plus a rain layer.
  • Bring a chair. Turn 5, Canada Corner and the Kink are popular viewing spots. The Good Times Guide has the fan map.
  • Know the rules. Glass, firearms, fireworks and drones aren’t allowed. See the Road America FAQ for details.

Plan your Vintage Weekend

More than 400 historic race cars, a Porsche celebration and two evenings in downtown Elkhart Lake are why Road America calls it one of the largest vintage racing events in the United States. Get your WeatherTech Vintage Weekend tickets and reserve a campsite for July 15–18, 2027.
