Road America is seeking an individual to fill a mid-level full-time position as a Human Resources Manager.  This position is responsible for talent management & recruitment, which involves scouting prospective candidates, job fairs, conducting interviews with qualified applicants, establishing an onboarding process for new hires, and conducting new employee orientation.  This role will oversee staffing policies, improve employee retention, and motivate staff through creating employee wellness initiatives.

This position requires compliance with industry regulations, and field complaints/concerns from employees, and uses a structured system to respond to any issues within the organization.  The HR manager will lead & direct hiring, interviewing, managing administrative pay, benefits, and leave packages, and enforces company policies and practices.

Successful candidate desires to help others and upholds ethical standards, they stay updated on HR laws to ensure their company provides equal opportunities to employees.  They should also have excellent interpersonal communication as they need to communicate effectively with the management, job candidates, and company employees alike.  This position needs to be a natural leader, which enables them to oversee a team of professionals and enforce corporate procedures.

Human Resources Duties & Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: 

  • Employee relations and culture maintenance
  • Formulate and recommend human resources policies and procedures for hiring, training, compensation, employee benefits, labor relations and personnel information. 
  • Design and monitor human resources functions for both permanent and seasonal employees
  • Receive, evaluate, approve, and track PTO and/or out-of-office requests
  • Communicate staff work-related incidents and notifications to employees
  • Maintain employee files and human resources records
  • Facilitate hiring process, onboarding, staff management, and company culture initiatives
  • Work collaboratively to post new job opportunities as needed
  • Oversee timely distribution of employee manuals, ensuring all state-specific manuals are up to date.
  • Oversee disciplinary meetings, terminations, investigations and exit interviews
  • Monitor employee time tracking regularly and communicate concerns to leadership
  • Provide guidance on compensation and benefit trends
  • Assisting department leads with scheduling
  • Arrange and manage employee benefits eligibility, enrollment
  • Complete annual reviews
  • Grievance handling, addressing work-related issues
  • Contributes to the overall success of Road America and its offerings by performing all other duties as assigned
  • Work public weekend events in areas with the most seasonal staff, i.e. gates, camping
  • Benefits review and acquisition, including health insurance, life insurance, 401k programs etc.

Education & Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, labor relations, organizational development, business, or related area; relevant work experience may be a substitute.
  • Conflict management training

Experience: 

  • Employee relations: 5 years (preferred)
  • Human resources: 2 years, one location
  • A minimum of two years experience in a human resource position
  • Heavy recruiting experience
  • Experienced in hourly, salary, and seasonal employee relations
  • Highly professional and ethical with unquestioned integrity
  • Familiar with Title VII of Civil Rights Act, Discrimination & labor laws pertaining to minimum wage & working conditions
  • Experience with compliance for the entertainment industry

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, sit, stand, talk, hear, and use hands.  The employee is subject to periodic outside environment conditions such as cold weather or extreme heat, subject to noise and fast-moving objects to support race events.  Must have the ability to lift at least 25 lbs. occasionally.

Hours:  40+ hours per week off-season, 50+ hours per week during the season.  Hours can be long and vary by week and event type. The candidate must be willing to work days, nights, and weekends to support events.
